RAY ARTHUR NIEMI - OBITUARY

August 10, 1912 - April 7, 1991

In Loving Memory of Ray Arthur Niemi.

Ray Niemi passed away peacefully at La Villa Grande Care Center, Grand Junction, Colorado, April 7, 1991. He was 78.

 

Arthur Reino (Raymond Ray) Niemi (son of Jacob Nestor Niemi and Sophia E. "Sofia" Soini) was born August 10, 1912 in Waukegan, Illinois. He married Stella Petraitis in Waukegan, Illinois in 1936.

Mr. Niemi worked as a furnace installer and repairman before entering the military July 17, 1943.

 

Corporal Ray Niemi served in the United States Army, Company D, 355th Infantry during the Second World War. He was a Truck Master. He fought in Rhineland and Central Europe. He received 2 overseas service bars, the American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 2 Bronze Battle Stars, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He also was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge (CIB). Mr. Niemi was honorably discharged January 11, 1946.

After the war Mr. Niemi worked in general construction mainly as a carpenter. He also worked as a Security Guard. He and his wife, Stella, moved to Grand Junction, Colorado in the 70's.

Ray Niemi was preceded in death by his parents; Father, Jacob Nestor Niemi, Mother, Sophia E. Soini; wife Stella Petraitis; siblings; Alexander Waino "Alex" Niemi, Lydia Niemi, William J. Niemi, Ailie E. Niemi, Raino J. Raymond Niemi, Leo E. Niemi, and Leonard W. "Len" Niemi Sr.

Mr. Niemi is survived by his sons, Arthur Richard "Art" Niemi, and Robert Leo "Bob" Niemi; grandchildren, Lynn, Carolyn, Bradley, Bob and Gary Niemi.

​
