NICHOLAS "NICK" BISHOP - OBITUARY

March 5, 1922 - March 19, 2006

Bishop, Nicholas (Nick), 84, resident of Boca Raton since 1957, died 3/19/06. Formerly of NJ, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II as a paratrooper, receiving 2 Battle Stars in the Solomons. His 3rd Battle Star was earned during his 2nd overseas tour in Iwo Jima. Upon his return to the States, Nick graduated from John Marshall Law School. After retiring as an insurance agent in 1980 and the sale of First Insurance Agency of Boca Raton to Arvida, he continued serving on the city's Community Appearance Board for a total of 23 years. He tirelessly worked to keep Boca a beautiful place to live and preserve its beaches. As a volunteer at BRCH, he logged in over 3,000 hours handling wheelchairs. Nick is survived by his wife Virginia (Ginnie), 2 sisters Fannye (John) Pappas, Eleni (Nick) Lourake, 3 children, Lee, Linda Shiraef, Ellen (Mike) Hayes, 9 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and many dear cousins, nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donatations may be made in his memory to Boca Raton Community Church, or the American Heart Assn. Memorial services to be held 11AM Tues. 3/28 at the Boca Raton Community Church (chapel), 470 NW 4th Ave.
