LOUIS PIERRE GEOFFRION - OBITUARY

1920 - December 26, 2009.

Peacefully at the Cornwall Community Hospital, McConnell Site, on Saturday, December 26, 2009. Louis Pierre Geoffrion of Bainsville; formerly of Montreal; age 89 years. Beloved husband of Isabella Monahan-Geoffrion. Dear father of Hélène Fee (Peter) of Whitby, ON and Ashley Monahan of Sun Peaks, B.C. Grandfather of Paul Hinrichs of Nelson, B.C. Dear brother of Françoise Dufour of Montreal. Predeceased by his parents, Henri Geoffrion and Juliette Bienvenu, his sister, Denyse Hayman Dempsey, and brothers, André, Marcel and Pierre. He will be remembered fondly by his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. 

 

Louis served two tours of operations as a fighter pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force in World War Two. His first tour was flying Hurricane aircraft with the Desert Air Force in North Africa and then, after a short leave in Canada, he resumed his duties flying Spitfire aircraft with 421 Squadron, RCAF in Northwest Europe until near the end of the war. Louis returned to Canada as a Squadron Leader, and, post-war, joined RCAF 438 Auxiliary Squadron, based in Montreal. After he retired he was appointed Honorary Colonel of 438 Squadron, serving two terms. He was also Aide-de-Camp to the Lt. Governor of Québec for two terms. Louis was a member of the RCAF Caterpillar Club, having bailed out over the Mediterranean; an associate member of Le Fusilliers Mont-Royal; and of Le Régiment de Maisonneuve; as well as past-president of Filiale #27 Jean Brillant, VC of the Royal Canadian Legion. 

 

Louis was a 33rd degree past Master of Royal Albert Edinburgh Lodge No. 25 and a member of St. Paul’s Lodge No. 374 of the Order of Ancient and Free Accepted Masons. 

 

He was also an active member of St. John’s Ambulance, the Historical Society, the Monarchists’ Society and the Heraldry Society of Canada.

 

In civilian life, Louis worked as a stock broker with the firm of Geoffrion, Robert et Gélinas which had been founded by his father. He also served several terms as Alderman in the City of St. Lambert.

 

Relatives and friends may call at the Munro & Morris Funeral Homes Ltd., 46 Oak Street, Lancaster (613) 347-3629 on Sunday, January 3, 2010 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A celebration of Louis’ life will be held at St. Andrew’s & Knox United Church, 21102-2nd Concession, Bainsville on Monday, January 4, 2010 at 2:00 p.m., the Rev. Jacqueline Frioud officiating. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Centre Funéraire Côte-des-Neiges, 4525 Côte-des-Neiges Road, Montreal, Père Jean-Guy Dubuc officiating, assisted by Padré Jacques Guilbault from the FMR. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to St. Andrew’s & Knox United Church would be appreciated by the family. As a memorial to Louis, a tree will be planted in Memory Woods.
